Apollo EECOM William Clinton "Clint" Burton, 76, passed away yesterday. For more than 30 years, he served as an aerospace engineer for NASA.During the Apollo 13 mission, Burton relieved fellow EECOM Sy Liebergot at the console as part of Flight Director Glynn Lunney's Black team of controllers. Of Burton's role, Liebergot writes in his biography Apollo EECOM: quote: I must admit, I was very relieved (no pun intended) to hand over to EECOM Clint Burton, even though it was a very hot potato. Over the next two hours, Clint oversaw the inevitable failure of all power and oxygen in the CSM as other members of the flight control team worked with the astronauts to activate the LM...
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, 2 grandchildren, three sisters, one brother and numerous nieces and nephews. |

RIP.I know very little of Clint Burton besides what I saw of his interview in "Apollo 13: To the Edge and Back," but I'm very saddened to hear of another dimunition in the ranks of the Apollo-era mission controllers. They were all true heroes. |
