In our NASM Docent newsletter, it was stated that, since Neil and Buzz, were both left handed, the Pete Conrad was the first righty on the moon. Is this true? And also, of the 12, who was righty and who was lefty?

Righties:
Armstrong, Aldrin, Conrad, Bean, Shepard, Scott, Irwin, Young, Cernan and Schmitt

Lefties:
Mitchell and Duke

Thus, Ed Mitchell was the first lefty on the Moon... Lovell WOULD have been first. Other "lunar lefties:" would have been Collins (he turned down backup for A14 and Cernan got it) and Gordon (A18 was cancelled).

Who was the first lefty in space you ask? Wally Schirra of course!

This concludes today's Lefty-Lesson...

Actually, no.

Sorry, David, I am going to have to correct your correction...

... this is going to sound like Moon-Hoax stuff, but the Bad Astronomy link you post actually has the imagery reversed (note the number "360" is back to front). If you download the entire clip from other sources, you'll see this is the case (there are other things in the entire clip, such as a signage board, to confirm this).

Thanks,

FF

Ha! That's great -- I'd seen the same clip elsewhere, but hadn't noticed the numbers.

I stand corrected.

No worries... I actually enjoyed the version you sent too, as it is somewhat gratifying to see a hit from both right and left fists...

Hi Francis,
The 360 reversed as you point out is the giveaway. I don't know why that reversed animated GIF became so widespread.

I did notice one thing that didn't change with the clip reversal: BS still comes off as a Loser.

If someone could splice the original and the reversed version back to back in a loop, it'd make for one heck of a boxing round!

...and to paraphrase the famous British boxing commentator Harry Carpenter on the Mike Tyson-Frank Bruno fight,

"And he's hurt Sibrel! GET IN THERE, BUZZ!"
