I just read pilots in Korea called John Glenn "Magnet Ass" because he drew a lot of anti-aircraft fire.

I also read that (at least) Wally Schirra called him "Herschel".

Anybody else have obscure nicknames?

'Herschel' is Glenn's middle name.

Hey, how are you doing? Okay I hope!

I was aware of the "Herschel" thing. I thought it was funny Wally Schirra called him by his middle name, but "Magnet Ass" was a complete surprise.

Do you know about any other obscure nicknames of otherwise well-known astronauts?

Wally ALWAYS refers to Glenn as Herschel. It's pretty funny in conversation. I don't think I've ever heard him call him John.
