While touring Ukraine, Swiss astronaut Claude Nicollier was mugged on April 17, suffering several stab and fist wounds. Very weakened, he had to cancel several conferences planned next week in the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland. He says that he's doing okay but needs rest.

I'm looking for official news release I can redirect readers to. Here it is in French (Google can translate).

Here's hoping for a fast and complete recovery. Were the muggers caught?

Contradicting the earlier news, it is now reported that Claude Nicollier was not stabbed.
It is on the way to his hotel Thursday night that Claude Nicollier suffered the blows of his attackers. There were many, had punched him in the face and stole his passport, his mobile phone and his wallet. "I have no memories of my assailants or the assault itself," said astronaut. Contrary to what was stated in the first instance and in various media Saturday afternoon, Claude Nicollier has not been hit with a knife.

Get well soon Mr. Nicollier - a veteran of four shuttle missions doesn't deserve that sort of brutal treatment.

Claude Nicollier looks fine, except for a large bruise on his forehead. You can watch a couple of videos from the Swiss-French TV (interviews in French). He discusses the latest Hubble mission in the first one and his two Hubble missions from 1993 and 1999 in the second video.
