The Astronaut Central site now states that the Collins signing will take place in early March, with a base signature fee (again) of $295.Full details about extra costs etc. will be available in late January. Can't wait to get my Collins WSS litho signed and personalized to me considering he's one of the harder siggies to get... |

Why is it that Mike Collins does not sign postal covers? |

Postal covers have a bad stigma attached to them in some astronauts minds...especially after the Apollo 15 cover scandal. Some also feel that covers are more "valuable" as collectibles than photos are...though today a typical signed cover is worth significantly less than a nicely signed photo (unless the cover in question is particularly special or unique). As such, some astronauts like Collins and Aldrin don't like signing them. |

Do I read the pricing correctly?Apollo 11 completion = $295 + $450 = $745 Gemini X completion = $495 |

FYI, the form is already posted on the Astronaut Central website. Perhaps you hadn't intended on posting it so soon and/or the form doesn't have the right prices. As it stands now, the 2010 form says the A11 completion is $745 ($295 base fee plus $450 for the A11 completion). That compares to $550 for the 2008 signing. |

The completion fees are disappointing, especially in light of recent signings by Young and Cernan without such fees. However, I am not a disinterested observer--I am trying to get my Gemini 10 crew lithograph completed. |

I've taken the forms down until I finish them. The Young and Cernan completion fee waivers were in support of ASFs Stafford signing, and MANY took advantage. This does not mean the disappearance of completion fees, however, they are still the norm. I will clarify and lower the Apollo 11 completion fee, however. We have also lowered the photo COA fees, since most people get them. I need to add some photos, and maybe change the deadline. I'll send an email to our list when ready. |

Everything's back up and official. Ignore the previous forms. The new forms have clarifications. New pics, a new deadline, lower prices. Go to: Astronaut Central and download the PDF order forms. |

We've made a new version of Mike's "Hatchling" (full size Apollo 11 hatch photo) with a little something different in the window, we think works better.

As an aside, all the Apollo capsules I've seen have had hatches removed. Where are they? |

Here in San Diego, we have Apollo 9's hatch back with the spacecraft. The command module was in Michigan and the hatch, I understand, was in Japan. Now reunited. Last time I saw Apollo 7, Apollo 8, Apollo 14, Apollo 17 and ASTP CMs on display, I seem to recall they had their hatches attached. Apparently recent photos of Apollo 15 and the first Skylab CM, which I haven't seen in person, have the hatches attached too. |

I was at the U.S Air Force museum in October and can say at least when I saw it, that Apollo 15 command module Endeavor had its hatch on and was closed. |

The hatch for Columbia is on display in the National Air and Space Museum, but the hatch is in the Apollo to the Moon gallery, while Columbia herself is in Milestones of Flight in the main lobby. |

The "Hatchling" hatch is Columbia's. I wrote Francis to see if he could measure the opening in Gumdrop, so I'd know how big to print it. 38" at the bottom. Still, it seems small for a CMP to get out of with a spacesuit on, for a SIM bay run. I ran through many iterations of what to put in the porthole, LM? Earthrise? Mike said he wanted to see Neil outside frantically trying to get in. In space, nobody can hear you curse. |

The Apollo 13 hatch is in the archives room at the Cosmosphere. Craig, Miranda, and I had the chance to pick it up, just a little bit, and get a good look at it. |

Do you happen to have a photo of it? I have the Rescue decal from the outside and would love a photo of the actual hatch even if it is devoid of mylar and all markings. |

As a spokesman for the late Captain James Cook, could I ask you to spell "Endeavour" correctly, please? |

In 1967, after writing to NASA, I received a small stack of NASA lithos, including some Gemini crew lithos. One of my favorites was a Gemini 10 crew litho showing Young and Collins. I kept it stored away for the last 40 years, never thinking I would be able to get it autographed. The recent Young and Collins signing at Novaspace's Astronaut Central made this a possibility-- although at a hefty price. I decided to seize the opportunity so I sent the litho (which has remained pristine after 40 years) for the John Young signing in Janaury and asked Kim and crew to hold it for the Collins signing this month. Today I received the Gemini 10 litho back beautifully signed by Young and Collins with their missions added. Many thanks to Kim, Sally, Rob and the rest of the Astronaut Central crew for making this possible. Last year I completed crew lithos for Gemini 6, 7 and 8 at the ASF in November. Now with this Gemini 10 completion I will only need one of the hardest-- Gemini 3-- to finish my Gemini collection (which is in a safe deposit box with color copies in my albums). |

I received my personalized Michael Collins WSS today. Very satisfied with it – thanks to the folks at Novaspace/Astronaut Central. Another job well done. This time I purchased the photo COA, although it cost a few extra dollars it was well worth the price. Mike |

I loved the photos of Collins on the COA. That wonderful man has the most expressive face in the space program, bar none. You can just feel the joy radiating from him! |
