I recommend that everybody take a look at these--especially the report. Some good stuff there. Particularly enjoyed the stories about Bruce McCandless.------------------ Don |

If anyone gives a hoot(and I'm sure nobody does), in the link to the photos, my moonglobe is the second one from the right. It has Dave Scott and Jack Schmitt signatures. Hope to add Micheal Collins, Alan Bean, Gene Cernan, Buzz Aldrin this year. Does anyone know if William Anders or Frank Borman sign? I'm thinking about Aldrin in Blue, Collins in red, Armstrong in Gold(wake me up). Any thoughts?

Hi there: Although the novelty of having Collins and Aldrin in blue and red might be kind of neat, I'd stick with black Sharpie. Previous (unscientific, informal) research on this site has suggested that blue and especially red fade pretty bad over time...plus, with the black, the piece would be uniform and the contrast with the lunar surface would be good. Food for thought...good luck! Rob |

Great report and some nice pix!I just wanted to take the time to thank Kim and Sally and everyone else at Novaspace for giving us the opportunity to participate in these kinds of signings. Lastly, but by no means leastly - Mahalo to Harrison Schmitt, who took the time and effort to accomodate the many collectors who have been waiting for an opportunity to have his signature grace their memorabilia. His signature sure looks good on my sons Saturn V! Thanks again to everyone who made this happen. Aloha Rizz |

Kim,Thanks for the note on the signing. I got a kick out of reading about Loose Bruce... it kind of gives one an idea for future inscriptions! Maybe the time will come that you can write your own book filled with anecdotes shared by all the astros that have come through your doors. (I would happily load up the car and drive the family across the desert for that book signing.) Thank you to you and your staff also for the great opportunity. I know they worked hard, and there are many people who are thankful for that effort. Like Steve and Nolan's shows, I am sure that the work involved in these events would not only surprise, or shock most of us, but also make us whither under the burden.

I too would like to thank Kim and his staff for getting Jack to sign. I did not have a signed print of him on the Moon and this signing gave me the chance to get one. I have also had Jim Lovell and Michael Collins sign items for me at Nova Space and I have purchased signed prints of Alan Bean and Gene Cernan from Nova Space. I don't have anything for Jim to sign now so I will not send anything in but I am counting the days till the Michael Collins signing. I have also purchased from farthestreaches.com and Steve Hankow is currently handling a book for me. I am looking forward to receiving it back (Hint, Hint)and I think he does a great job getting the astros to sign. Where would we be without these guys? Most likely we would be spenting too much time and money trying to get in touch with the astros themselves. Sure it costs get items signed through these dealers but at least the astros are willing to sign our stuff at these signings. I try to look at it from the astros point of view. Which would they rather do? Deal with dozens of requests a day and get so fed up with it that the stop signing, or go to a dealer once a year or every few years and sign peoples items. It is an easy call. Keep up the good work guys and realize that not everyone is going to be happy. All you can do is try to listen to the music through the static. Mike Myer Humboldt KS. |

Also can I add if it wasn't for Kim and the others the following wouldn't sign at all. Schmitt - stopped signing a year ago Lovell - only signs his book (Hasn't this stopped now) Collins - Stopped many moon's ago Scott - Allways has charged high prices and had restrictions on how his autographs were sold Aldrin - Has always been tricky for free Cernan - Now uses an agent Worden - If it wasn't for a passionate collector he wouldn't sign at all Mc Divitt / Haise - Fantastic through the post once apon a time but as the last of the free apollo autographs but both had to stop due to overwhellimg demand.
I once had a Shuttle astronaut respond to a question of mine about autograph requests with the follow" It takes about 10 minutes to respond to an autograph request, Open envelope, read letter, check picture, sign item place in SASE, If no SASA item goes in bin" He also said he would get about 10 requests a day and had no staff to help and this was a guy who flew on an early shuttle flight but most people wouldn't know who he was. I also remember a Apollo astronaut about 10 years ago saying the day he introduced a $5 his mailbox dropped by 3/4 and he could get on with doing what he wanted. Multiple that by 10 for the apollo guys who also have no staff and you can see why they have agents. For me these signings are a "risk" free way of getting a guaranrteed signature from the other side of the pond where you can't just bump into Buzz Aldrin. And it comes back to supply/demand and market forces people will pay $750 for an Aldrin where those in the know will pay $160 or even nothing if its the right day. For 99% its a hobby yes you cant collect pioneering astros for free (John Glenn exception) but as most are in their 70 / 80's now how long will we be able to collect them for free or otherwise.

First off, I want to thank Dr. Schmitt enormously... not just for agreeing to the autograph signing this month at NS, but really for all he has done during a career as a scientist and astronaut. Thanks to people like him, we were able to reach out to another world, walk its surface, explore its terrain and learn more about the marvelous cosmos we inhabit. Dr. Schmitt was a hero in the finest sense.. both in the exploration of the Taurus Littrow itself as well as in his tireless efforts to help prepare other Apollo crews to explore and understand the geology of their own landing sites.I'd also like to thank Kim and Sally and all the staff at NovaSpace. I am a relatively new collector, but they have been enormously helpful to me as I have made my first forays into this collecting area. I was 16 when Neil and Buzz first set foot at Tranquility Base and so I literally grew up with the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs... and now in young middle age (cough.. cough !!) I am reliving great memories thru this hobby. Lastly, I hope its not presumptuous of me to ask my fellow cS'ers how many of them actually participated in the Schmitt signing at NS.... I myself sent in 4 photos to be signed.. (two personalized -- none representing completions, I'm too new at this) and I was wondering if that is the norm, or whether others send in less stuff or different stuff or what. Just curious.. response is voluntary... hope everyone ends up happy regardless. And thanks again to Dr. Schmitt, the folks at NovaSpace, and my fellow collectors. I just sent in two things myself. I sent in my copy of Alan Beans Reaching for the Stars. I previously added Dave Scott, so adding Jack puts me up to 8 Moonwalkers. I will never get to 12 unfortunately, but at least I now have a Moonwalker from each landing and member of each Apollo crew on it too.I also ordered an 8x10 framed version of Split Rock. I already have an open space up on the wall for it, though space is at a premium now thanks to all the pieces I have picked up from Novaspace over the years. One by one they add up. I stopped at two pieces being signed because I have two other mouths to feed in the house and they both seem to want a lot of Little People toys. But where else other than Novaspace would a guy be able to get a huge piece like Reaching for the Stars signed like that? I have a similar sized litho that I am adding test pilots to, and it is uncomfortable dragging that thing around and it isn't even as large as RFTS. ------------------ Kind Regards Douglas Henry Enjoy yourself and have fun.... it is only a hobby! http://home.earthlink.net/~aztecdoug/ [This message has been edited by collectSPACE Admin (edited February 12, 2005).] |

I would like to say thank you to Kim and Sally Poor for arranging the Schmitt signing. (and thanks to Mr. Schmitt) I could afford to send only one item, but I'm glad I had the chance to send it. The authenticity is unquestionable and Novaspace does a great job with these events. Sure, I wish Schmitt would have charged less, but he didn't. Send something, or don't. It's that simple. Thanks also to Al H., Steve Z, Sims & Hankow, the Boggs, etc. Without these folks my collection of signed items would be pitiful.[This message has been edited by collectSPACE Admin (edited February 12, 2005).] |

THANK YOU very much to Kim and Sally poor, Dr. Schmitt and all the good folks at NOVASPACE for making this signing possible at all !! I was fortunate enough to send in 4 items that I have wanted to get signed for 20 years and was afraid to mail them to Dr. Schmitt's site. The opportunity to meet Dr.Schmitt never made itself possible and I am enormously grateful for this NOVASPACE signing !! Bravo to NOVASPACE and especially to Dr. Schmitt. Hi thereI got two items signed - the first being a "Hero" litho (I have always liked that photo). This will complete my set of Moonwalker autographs either uninscribed, or made out to me (as in the case of John Young). I have only been collecting for 3 years and aside from collecting, I have had the honour of meeting many of the Apollo era astronauts and seven of the moonwalkers. Also I got a Full Earth picture previously signed by Jim Irwin. Maybe I can add the other LMPs to this someday... Many thanks to the good people at Novaspace. I am looking forward to looking in the mail in the next few weeks. All the Best Burns Fallow Auckland, New Zealand |

I'll echo everyone's sentiments and say a big thank you to Kim and Sally for getting another nonsigning astronaut to particpate in a Novaspace signing. I purchased a NASA red numbered glossy some years ago of Harrison Schmitt with the hope that someday in the future Novaspace might possibly get him in for a signing. Just a gamble on my part but low and behold Novaspace came through. Boy, was I happy when the first notice appeared about the signing. Now I need to get a few more photos of nonsigners (McDivitt, Haise, Armstrong, Young, Anders) just in case either Kim, Steve or Al get lucky! Actually a rather short list thanks to them. Anyone have a red serial numbered glossy of McDivitt they want to sell? Again thanks Kim and Sally. You have a top notch company that really takes care of us and provides a fantastic service to our hobby! Dave |

DaveIf you want 8 x 10 glossys signed by McDivitt and Haise you could sign up for the 2005 astronaut autograph club, both those guys are due to sign this year. The money goes to kid's education as well so you get the added bonus of the cash going to a good cause. There is a link off the CS homepage. Regards Dave

From what I'm led to believe neither of the astronauts you've mentioned above will ever sign for a fee or would attend an autograph show where the principle objective is to make money out of selling their autograph. If you got Haise or Anders in person they would more than likely sign, the others more than likely not. I'd also like to echo the comments of Above the Clouds; both Haise and McDivitt are due to sign for the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation's 2005 Astronaut Autograph Club. At $499 for 12 signed photographs, 12 personalised letters, archive box, archive sleeves and 2 Max Access passes to KSC it is not only a bargain but also possible to make it a tax deductable donation. I've had Schmitt sign my 'just maybe' moonwalkers book. It's a copy of the old Gulf Oil 'We Came In Peace' book, already signed by Pete Conrad, Alan Shepard, Ed Mitchell, Jim Irwin, Charlie Duke and Gene Cernan. As it is signed by all the deceased moonwalkers it's possible that it could one day be signed by all twelve.Just not very likely. At all... Cheers, Matt ------------------ www.spaceracemuseum.com |

I sent an 8 x 10 of Schmitt at Split Rock that I first purchased from a cS member to send to him through the mail for signing. It came back to me a long time later with the note so many of us got after he decided to stop signing. I agonized over what to send him at Novaspace, and finally decided that I should finish what I had started. I dunno--makes sense to me.------------------ Don |

Today my wife got roses and I got my framed Split Rock picture signed by Jack Schmitt back from Novaspace. I never get over the thrill of carefully pulling apart something packed by Novaspace. Slowly removing layer after layer of packing material until the object emerges. There is nothing nicer than one of those framed pictures that Kim puts together. Especially with that silver gel pen on the black background. As another list member would say.... Sweet! Thanks again to Kim and the team for overcoming the impossible and thanks to Jack for doing this signing. It really added to my Valentines Day. Life is Good.

I just received my items back from Kim, Sally & Co. and I'm very very happy with them. Finances preclude me from participating in most signings, but like others above I've always wanted that elusive Split Rock photo signed by Dr. Schmitt. Now I have two, one personalized to my family and one unpersonalized. Packed very well, and considering the volume involved, shipped very fast. Great job with another signing, Novaspace. |

Received my Apollo 17 night launch completed by Jack Schmitt today. It was pure luck finding this litho inscribed by Evans "To Paul" just 3 weeks before the signing. Cernan had already signed it, but Schmitt was missing. The choice of pen and in particular the placement of the signature was just perfect, given that there aren't many light places to sign. As ever, cast-iron packaging and fantastic service. Thanks to all at Novaspace...and of course, Dr Schmitt.Paul Bramley |

Having just received my signed Schmitt photos, I would like to add my voice to the chorus "Thank You Novaspace". As a long time collector of autographs (and a risk manager by occupation) I am risk adverse when it comes to authenticity. As such 98.5% of my collection are autographs obtained by myself directly, always personalized if the signer allows or is is cooperative (and some, typically star atheletes, aren't, even when paying a fee). The remaining 1.5% have been obtained through Novaspace's private signings. Speaking for myself I am extremely greatful that our hobby has friends, such as Kim and Sally, that provide a service that allow us "to have it your way". Yes, it can get expensive to get exactly what you want in the way you want it but at least there is an opportunity to get it, which is better than no opportunity at all. So, Kim and Sally, thanks for what you have done for my personal collection as well as my fellow collectors. May you live long and prosper! |
