I just received an email from Regency-Superior stating it will no longer be conducting space auctions. The company is winding down its operations.Has anyone else heard this? I know some had complaints about Regency. As a long-time bidder, I'll miss their auctions. |

I am sorry to see Regency-Superior go; the circumstances leading to their closure are tragic. Some of the staff at Regency-Superior have been working with collectSPACE since we came online in 1999, Penney and David Kols have been a friend throughout and the company was a long-time advertising partner. Their absence will be felt. |

I am very sorry to hear this news. In the early 1990s, I remember vividly seeing an ad in Air & Space Smithsonian magazine advertising a space memorabilia auction by Superior, Stamp and Coin. Up until that time, I had no idea about the availability of space memorabilia to the public. I built my early collection of mostly 3x5 cards (since sold) and crew-signed covers mostly through Superior auctions and from Adam Harwood and Donnis Willis. I only wish I had had the disposable income then that I have now, I can remember when Buzz Aldrin's flashlight flown on Gemini XII sold in a Superior auction for $400 plus buyer's fee; I should have bought it! I am also sorry that the auction house is closing due to tragic circumstances. Best wishes to the families involved. And thanks for helping me get my start in collecting space memorabilia! |

According to Regency-Superior, all remaining items in their possession are being returned to their consignors. |

If their site disappears we will lose their online archive of all space sales back to around 2004.Maybe we should try to do something about this before it's too late, although the sheer volume of data (particularly images) could make this challenging. |

It could be done but one would require access to their database and files. Whether or not they would allow it is a different matter. |

I haven't looked at their website and don't know what is publicly available on it. I will say, though, that there is decent free website copying software available if this is important for anyone here to preserve this data. The one I'm familiar with and have used is HTTrack. It has a free general public license and is easy to use, if anyone cares enough to give it a try. The big caveat, of course, would be copyright. Before attempting to copy any website data, it may be advisable to contact the proprietors of Regency-Superior to ask their permission. |
