The Lunar Legacies Space Memorabilia Auction VIII is in two short months, and will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011.Many lots are beginning to appear on my website. There will be the usual assortment of space memorabilia including manuals, lunar maps and more. A short list of the highlights include: - A large U3 Command Module storage locker
- Five Saturn cabinet modules
- Gus Grissom's cufflinks given to his brother before the fire.
- Walt Cunningham's signed Gemini 3, Gemini 4 and Apollo 13 photos.
- Five flown items from Cunningham's personal collection from Apollos 7, 12 and 15.
- Many manuals and booklets including a rare Apollo 1 Flight Plan.
- Loads of Lunar Module, Command Module,
- Skylab and Shuttle hardware.
And much more.If anyone wishes to consign to this auction, please e-mail me. I will be glad to talk with you. And remember, consignment fees are only 10% of the selling price - much lower than other auction. This rate will stay into effect throughout this May auction, and this rate will also be grandfathered in for the next auction in August to all those consignors who have consigned with me in the past. After that time, two auctions from now, the consignment rate will unfortunately have to be increased to 15% for everyone, which is still at or below all other auctions. The buyer's fee structure will remain the same at 10% for mail or phone bidders and 15% for internet bidders (5% extra for the Proxibid's fee). Thanks very much, and I look forward to hearing from you. Don Willis Lunar Legacies |

Can someone point me towards a list of prices paid at the PREVIOUS (7th) Lunar Legacies space auction? These don't seem to be anywhere on the Lunar Legacies web-site and all searches lead me to the NEXT auction. Thanks in advance! |

For those of you that will be at our auction here is some info. The eighth Lunar Legacies Space Memorabilia Auction has now been uploaded to Proxibid for pre-bidding for the auction on Saturday May 21st. All missing images and descriptions, for the last minute items, will be completed by Tuesday. Hundreds of additional lot photos are available for viewing on Proxibid that were not available on the Lunar Legacies, and there are No Reserves! Perhaps I missed it, but where is there? Is this an online-only auction or is there a venue for in-person bidding? |

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but why are highest bids shown on the Proxibid site? I understand that starting bids may be minimums acceptable but surely by disclosing highest bids it deters some from bidding or encourages people to bid higher than they may really want to. Perhaps this is the reason? |

I'm pretty sure it just shows the current high bid (or winning bid if you like), not the highest bid amount placed by the bidder.Of course when you place a bid the 'high bid' might immediately jump to your highest bid if that's what it takes to outbid the highest bid of the previous winning bidder. |

Hello - Jan here - Donnis's wife. I'm going to attempt to answer your questions... - We have the auction at a private residence. If you are interested in coming to the auction email us and we will give you the address.
- The proxibid "highest bid" is just that its the highest bid that someone actually bid up to. Proxibid doesn't show what the highest actual bid is unless its been reached.
Have a great day! |

Hi Jan, thanks for your reply.Still don't get point 2 though unfortunately. If it's the highest bid surely then it is? |

It's the current winning bid.e.g. Opening price is $25 X places a high bid of $50 => Highest bid shown: $25 Y places a bid of $30 X remains the winning bidder at one increment over the next highest bid => Highest bid shown: $35 So the highest bid placed is still $50 but only the current winning bid is shown. This is standard practice for all auctions. |

Ah, okay. We have the auction listed on our Space History Events calendar but note the location only as TBA. If there was a publishable venue, I would have updated our listing. |

I want to thank everyone for participating in the Lunar Legacies auction and helping to make it successful, and hope you were able to get what you wanted. I also want to thank everyone for their patience - I have just finished sending out the last invoice out of a total of 86 buyers, and will begin getting all the packages into the mail this afternoon (Thursday) and onward. Invoices take time due to the fact there is only me here to do them and that postage for 86 different piles of items needs to be calculated, so sorry for the delay.I also want to take this opportunity to announce that I will very probably be re-opening my straight sales website within a month or so, and I will keep everyone posted on the particulars of that. Once again, my sincere appreciation for your business. The next Lunar Legacies auction is scheduled for August 20th, so if you have anything you wish to consign, please email me at lunarlegacies@gmail.com. Thanks again. Donnis |
