Anyone snag anything cool? My wife was watching the bidding with me on the Lunar Rover "license plate" and said, "you know, I could see $11,000 for that." We don't have that kind of money, but someday....

I told her I wasn't planning on buying anything, but when the Cuban flag was repriced at well below it's start - I snagged it. Anyway, I had to tell her what I bought and she gave this look "what did you buy?"

I said, deadpanned...

"Well, I was thinking we could move the TV, because I kinda bought this Soviet space suit..."

The look I got was priceless. Of course, I didn't buy that either...

I picked up 2 of the silver shuttle Robbins Medallions, STS-92 and 103. I'm pretty excited.

Some great deals there if you are in that several thousand dollar price bracket. I am not :-(

I did pick up a nice flown US flag and a couple of crew signed shuttle pics for a song.

I did cook my fiancee a great dinner though!

The crowd on the floor was a little light. Especially today. But that didn't matter. Bidder number 30 kept winning a lot of stuff. Then I realized that was the generic number for all Interent bidders!

Al Worden was there both days. A real neat guy. Wow, he is so open and warm.

I picked up the lot of Canadian items plus the Robert McCall drawing. It'll look great in my office.

Cheers,
Andrew.

Well it was my first time at this kind of thing and I was hoping to pick up one or two of the Mercury/Gemini/Apollo items but it didn't work out for me.

Next on my list was a flown item so the first thing I managed to actually buy was the red "Remove before flight" tag - I guess, the thing most likely not to have flown :-)

In the end, I picked up a couple of nice ISS items and I think I got a good deal on one of the MIR flown covers too.

Does anyone know if Aurora is going to release a "final selling price" sheet for the items sold in the auction? Did anyone keep track of the totals for "unofficial" results?

I think you'll find that there is a list available from the front page of collectSpace.

I kept my eye on four items in the auction...

1) The Lunar License Plate... estimated to bring 5-6K...

It sold for 12K!

2) The Apollo 15 Robbins flown medallion... estimated to bring 2,500 to 3,000...

It sold for 6,500!

3) An autographed photo of Harrison Shmitt... estimated to bring 100 to 150...

It sold for 400!

4) The flown Apollo 11 Robbins medallion... estimated to bring 7,500 to 10,000...

It sold for 3,750!

So.... Why did the Apollo 15 items bring sooo much? Is it because the show was oriented a bit towards 15? And why did the Apollo 11 item sell so cheap? I guess that this sale was a classic example of the free market economy. If you wanted it bad enough you paid whatever it took to get it. If you wanted a bargain... you just had to keep your eyes open, and your fingers crossed that there would be a jewel waiting for you! From everything I've heard so far there were bargains to be had, but in all fairness to Aurora, there were profits made by some sellers!

I can't wait for the next one!!!

Partly, I would think that the later missions to the moon were so much more interesting than Apollo 11. I mean, Apollo 15 or 17 are what space exploration should be about - the equipment works, so let's use it for something interesting. This is something that was really brought to the surface in the HBO series, and maybe that gets reflected in the bidding.

I couldn't agree more... that Apollo 15-17 were great! But, from what I've seen Apollo 11 has always held the number one spot in being the most expensive to collect. Ask someone outside of space collecting the name of an astronaut that walked on the moon. If they can give you an answer you'll hear "Neil Armstrong".
Maybe, what's happening is that the stock market drop and the lagging economy has caused the casual collector to drop out and the space nuts... those who appreciate 15-17... to buy, buy, buy!!

The Schmitt was the main item I had my eye on but it got too expensive before I could even put a bid in.

I've heard rumour of an outside possibility that he may sign at NovaSpace for the Apollo 17 mission anniversary nearer the end of the year.

Given that, as I understand it he hasn't charged before, it makes you wonder how much he could charge then.

I was able to purchase two lots - one was a Yuri Gagarin signed portrait which I've always wanted and the second item was Lot 525 the flown $2 Bill on Gemini 3 signed by Young and Grissom. The description said that the Grissom signature on the certificate was printed while the Young was legitimately signed (the signatures on the bill itself are both genuine). Countdown Creations has the same item currently for sale and they state that both Grissom signatures on the one that they have are real. Does anyone know why some of the Grissom sigs on the certificate would be real and why some would be printed? Or are they all printed? or real? Any help would be appreciated.

Dan
