I participated in the two Aurora auctions that were held in early April. I still have not received my items from the second auction. Has anyone else had this issue? I won one item in the first auction and received it but I bid and won on eight items from the second and received none? The payment was accepted extremely fast! Does anyone have a phone number or contact for them? Ron |

Dear David: You will have received an email from us regarding this same subject, but since you had posted to CS I thought I would post my response here as well for the benefit of other customers as well. As you may recall, our company's policy is to hire the independent, third party firm LiveAuctioneers (the Ebay representatives) to handling clerking the auction through the internet for us rather than doing it ourselves; we feel that, despite the added expense to us, this gives our customers an "independent agent" to represent their bids on the auction floor. While the technology of internet bidding provides a great convenience for many customers, there are a few instances where the position of an item being sold may have been finalized during the slight time delay of information coming over the internet, such as the auctioneer hammering the item closed or when a live bid is made before an internet bid of equal amount appears on the screen. This is why the terms and conditions under which we conduct our auction specify that we make the final determination of the winning bids for items sold in our auction. The only drawback with the Ebay system is that they do not have the capacity to make corrections to their winning bidder record if a lot is hammered to the floor or mail bidder for an identical bid that has come from the internet. In such an instance, the Ebay record will show the lot as closed, with the amount of the identical bid, but the earlier mail bid or floor bid would be the actual winner. This is why it is most preferable to be live on the auction floor or submit written bids by mail for an item you are truly interested in. As a matter of course, we have not yet billed you nor asked you for money for this lot until we completed and finalized our investigation. It takes a bit of time to undertake investigation for an item, including reviewing the bidding records and communication with Ebay, so we appreciate your patience and apologize for any invenience this may have caused you. The bid for the lot you won was submitted by mail, so, under the terms and conditions of our auction, it takes precedence over the subsequently submitted internet bid for the identical amount. You should be receiving an invoice shortly. Best regards, Victoria Campbell |

Whilst I can see that this is largely out of Aurora's hands, you must have visibility of the internet bidding "trend" such that if an internet bidder is competing with successive bids against a floor bidder you would hold off for 60 secs before closing the item to ensure the time delay does not unreasonably disadvantage the internet bidder. In my case I still don't know why there was a TWO MONTH delay between being told I'd won a certain lot and being told I HADN'T won the item. Paul Bramley

Thank you Victoria for your email to me as well as the repsonse above. No inconveninence at all -- I didn't understand until now what you needed to do. I'm happy to wait as long as is required to receive the item, I just hadn't realized how the proceedure worked. Best Regards, David Scott (not the astronaut) |
