Lockheed Martin and the other "traditional" aerospace contractors built the spacecraft and boosters that made the US space program what it's been so far.
Why aren't they active in this new procurement paradigm that's been brewing for some time now? They could as well capitalize their proposals and ream the benefits of this brave new world just as more recent startups are poised to do! Please enlighten me.

I'm a bit surprised with all that is going on that nobody jumped onto this question... Perhaps the "Commercial Space - Military Space" forum isn't followed by cS'ers yet as it ought to be in the new environment...
John Karas, from Lockheed Martin, adressed the termination of Orion on SpaceFlightNow's This Week In Space (Feb.12), but did not elaborate on any followups.
