Author Topic:   Important step towards GPS 40 years ago Richard Easton Member Posts: 175 From: Winnetka, IL USA Registered: Jun 2006 posted 10-27-2007 11:16 PM             Last Thursday, about 30 people met at the John Ericsson statue near the Lincoln Memorial in DC. They were celebrating the 40th anniversary of a demonstration of passive ranging to Pentagon officials using the TIMATION 1 satellite (10/25/1967). Many of the surviving people who worked on TIMATION were there. This was an important step on the path to GPS.
