Russians have an agreement to fly a researcher cosmonaut (profesional at least) in the Soyuz flight of April-06. As happened with Sergei Volkov, now Dmitri Kondratyev is near to lose his seat on the Soyuz flight of next April. (Vinogradov-Tani-Pontes). I see this as if a family of three members (dad, mum, son) is ready to make a trip on holidays with their three-place-car to the beach, and they say "you're a good son but you will stay at home because we have found other kid who will pay the fuel... You'll see the beach the next year (maybe)" Since the Columbia tragedy, with no STS flights (except 114), the possibilities of flying for russian cosmonauts are minimum. Now there are 38+2 cosmonauts, 23 are unexperienced (57,5%), and 17 had flown in space. Five of the 17 never flew in a Soyuz: Tokarev (STS-96), Treshchev (STS-111), Tyurin (STS-105), Yurchikin (STS-112), Morukov (STS-106). And 9 of the 17 (52,94%) have only one flight, and 5 of those 9 are short flights (less than 2 weeks) With Shuttle grounded, caretaker crews on ISS, and only three tickets to ride,it's not strange that cosmonauts leave the program (i.e Kuzelnaya). Any comments? Regards. Carlos L. Borobio |

Only 2 Russian cosmonauts a year will be able to get a flight if the third seat is given to a foreign astronaut or space tourist. I think this is the worst the Russian space program has ever been for flight opportunities for its cosmonauts . | |
