I spotted the above this morning being transported through the KSC Industrial Area. They were westbound in the eastbound lanes.

They look like shuttle solid rocket booster frustums (what's the plural?!) to me, but I thought I'd ask the experts here for an opinion.

Thanks. They were westbound in the eastbound lanes of NASA Parkway, passing through the Industrial Area. I'm guessing they were headed for the disposal yard on Ransom Road but don't really know.

Doubt it, the SRB ARF is north on Kennedy Parkway.

Those look like they've already been refurbished. Can't imagine that they are headed to the trash heap.

Is it possible they could be frustrums from the ET and SRB set up that was in front of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex? That whole assembly is eventually supposed to go to the California Science Center with Endeavour.

They were not from the Visitor Complex.

I saw them as well while driving in to the press site. I inquired, and it's believed (as Jim wrote), they were headed for the ARF (Assembly and Refurbishment Facility).

That was my other guess, but then why were they westbound in the eastbound lanes? If they were going to turn northbound to go to the ARF, seems to me they'd be in the eastbound lanes.

But then they drive the wrong way all the time. Maybe they were just doing it because they can.

I guessed Ransom Road because if that was the destination, going westbound they could go down the ramp from northbound Kennedy Parkway to NASA Parkway, going the wrong direction, and then on to Ransom Road. That would mean they didn't have to go under the overpass.

I'll look around next time I drive by the disposal yard.

All times are CT (US)
