What is going to happen to the shuttle flags when the shuttles are retired? Are they going to go with the shuttles to their places of display? |

I would bet that the shuttle flag that flies at Kennedy Space Center goes with each shuttle. I believe each NASA center has a set of flags that they fly when a mission is up. I know that they even had a flag for Shuttle/Mir that they flew when an astronaut was on Mir. |

Kennedy Space Center alone flies multiple shuttle flags. A flag is flown at the pad, over the perimeter guard house. Another is flown over the press site, on the flag pole near the countdown clock. Yet another flag is flown in front of the headquarters building. During the countdown to the STS-132 launch, an Atlantis flag was displayed over the Launch Control Center (LCC), suspended from the roof's railing. Johnson Space Center flies a shuttle flag over the headquarters building (Building 1). I believe another flies over Mission Control. |

So would at least one go with the shuttle and the rest would stay at their respective centers? |

My guess is that it's too early for the orbiter flags' fate to have been decided. That said, I don't think its unreasonable to believe that if a museum selected to receive an orbiter requested a flag to outfit its display, NASA would accommodate that request. |
