NASA has released the STS-119 crew portrait:

STS119-S-002 --- Attired in training versions of their shuttle launch and entry suits, these seven astronauts take a break from training to pose for the STS-119 crew portrait. From the right (front row) are NASA astronauts Lee Archambault, commander, and Tony Antonelli, pilot. From the left (back row) are NASA astronauts Joseph Acaba, John Phillips, Steve Swanson, Richard Arnold and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Koichi Wakata, all mission specialists. Wakata is scheduled to join Expedition 18 as flight engineer after launching to the International Space Station on STS-119.

I "sort of" met Tony Antonelli a couple of years ago, at the St. Petersburg/Clearwater FL airport. I was doing a charter flight, and checking weather on the computer in the pilot briefing room, when I sensed someone looking over my shoulder. I turned around, and it was obviously an astronaut in his blue flight suit. He looked familiar, but I didn't place him right away (I thought it might be Rick Sturckow). I asked him if he needed to get on the computer, but he said "No thanks; I'm just looking at the radar." I made a point to get a look at his nametag a few minutes later, and saw who it was. I later watched him taxi out and take off in his T-38.

Very nice portrait. Good that they are going back to the original format. Some portraits of late have been a little Over The Top. However STA-118's worked very well. Great to see a new portrait.

Space Flight Awareness has released the STS-119 crew poster:

Download the high-res version (40.4mb)

This continues the movie-inspired mission poster trend (see: STS-124, STS-125).

Awesome! I really like these fun posters. I think this is a good way to hopefully get more people somewhat interested in what NASA is doing.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tony Antonelli at an STS-112 pre launch reception I was privleged to attend in 2002. Unfortunately that launch attempt was scrubbed but the trip was worth it for the reception with so many astronauts present. Tony was very nice, and posed for pictures. All the astronauts, present and former, did as well. I was surprised he called himself Tony when his name is Dominic, not Anthony. In any case I hope they have a great flight.

I, too, had the pleasure of meeting Tony Antonelli. I met him at the Peoria Air Show in 2004. He was very nice to meet and we talked about the shuttle and the astronaut office and was very impressed with my knowledge of spaceflight. He was very polite to have his photo taken and since I was a volunteer for the air show I even got to see him up close taking off in his NASA T-38. A very good person, indeed. I, too, wish him and the rest of his crew good luck with their STS-119 mission!! Thank you.
