Reading through some transcripts of ASTP, there are times when Houston can't hear the spacecraft/astronauts.

In this modern age, is the Shuttle and is the ISS and their crews always in voice communication with Houston? Or are there still periods of in and out of communication depending upon where they are?

Thanks!
Gene

With the TDRS constellation, you would think they should be in constant voice coverage. However, there are still times when they have video dropout for several minutes.

All times are CT (US)
