On the latest episode of Antiques Roadshow, the granddaughter of USS Noa's Captain, which famously recovered John Glenn after the first American orbital space flight, brought in this artifact for appraisal.

I hope the Captain didn't snap it off like kids used to snap off hood ornaments... Just kidding. Awesome artifact.

Heh! You must have grown up in a rather benign community, because in my hood, it was the antennas that were snapped off, not the hood ornaments.

Now I remember. My Dad had to buy a replacement antenna to slip over the antenna stub and screw on. Probably at R & S Auto Stores in NJ. The hood ornaments were from "upscale cars" and then worn on chains around one's neck.
