Fellow cS'ers, I wonder if I can ask your opinion on something I observed last night in the Eastern night sky in the constellation Bootes at 5.15am GMT.
With the naked eye the object looked just like a fuzzy blob just as a naked eye comet would look. With binoculars the fuzzy blob again looked like a comets tail but a stubby triangular one. I was puzzled by this since I wasn't aware of any naked eye comets at the moment.
I observed this object for around 45 minutes and as time went on I noticed that it moved quite a distance relative to a close faint star in my binoculars: again something that a comet would not do in this short space of time. Eventually the fuzzy blob faded until it disappeared.
Do any of you have any explanation for this observation last night?
