I just found out that Bob Glass (glass007 here on cS) passed away last year. Bob had been in assisted care in New Jersey for several years.I'll always remember Bob for his hospitality in letting us stay at his place (pre-assisted care) in Weehauken, NJ for Space Unit shows in New York City. And rides to the show, going across Manhattan in the Glassmobile (a Ford Excursion with bars over the headlights and taillights for armored protection), were more thrilling than Mr. Toad's Wild Ride! A great guy... Bob had a wicked sense of humor. Favorite Bob Glass story: Back in the mid-'90's we had a DC Area Space Collectibles sale. One of the dealers there (and no, I won't name names, but a lot of you from that timeframe can figure it out) was really torqueing everyone off. Said dealer had a pile of missile parts for sale. At lunchtime, Bob and I walked to a nearby restaurant. We noticed that some car had lost its muffler in the road... Well on the way back from the restaraunt, Bob walked out into the street and grabbed said muffler. He then sneaked it into said dealer's heap-o-missile parts. All afternoon we snickered about it. At closing time, said muffler was still in said dealer's heap! Not sure how long it took him to figure it out. Anyway, umpteen years later, I sure hope that none of you have a rusty missile part with a "Midas Muffler" trademark in your collection... gulp! Rest in peace, Bob Glass... |

I only met Bob a couple of times but he was definitely a good guy with a great sense of humor. He was active in the Space Unit for many years. RIP. |

What a shock to hear about Bob's passing! He had visited with me during some of his trips to Florida years ago. Always a gun-ho space collector enthusiast; A really nice guy that I had the pleasure to meet, see him at the shuttle press site, and get to know during his Space Coast visits. He will be missed. |

What sad news. I only spent time with Bob on two separate occasions (one at his home and one at a public signing), but he was amazingly friendly and helpful to fellow collectors. |

Oh my another of the really good guys. Bob was a dear friend, and when he tried to move to Florida we were in constant contact. But when they wasn't viable, I had no idea he went back to NJ and was even in an assisted living facility. There was no greater friend to the space collecting community, a very few equal but none greater. We used to have a great laugh at his political views and his working for the NY Times. RIP dear friend, RIP. |

Bob was truly one of the great space cover collectors and a very knowledgeable space collector and a friend to all who knew him. After one of our Space Unit space memorabilia shows in NYC we ended up at a nearby Italian restaurant (of course). Carmine Torrisi had shown up with a life sized cardboard prop of the Apollo 13 crew from the movie "Apollo 13" and Billy Kowalczyk, Sam Stein, Dennis Dillman, Bob Glass and I gathered around the prop for a group photo with, of course, the Apollo 13 crew in their spacesuits in the center of the photo! Everybody in the restaurant couldn't believe it. They thought the Apollo 13 crew was paying the restaurant a visit and gave us a standing ovation. It just doesn't get any better than that! We will miss you Bob, what great memories! |

I know I'm late on this, but just happened to learn of Bob's passing in conversation with another collector. He was a really nice guy and a lot of fun.In fact, in the photo above, Bob is on the far left and I am the one next to him in the blue shirt. This was a Space Unit show in Queens, NY. Carmine Torresi is in the red checkered shirt and Bob Russo is on the far right. |
