I know people are discussing what they would want if money wasnt an issue, but I think for most of us, in reality it is. I'd love to hear what people have on their wishlist, holiday list, birthday wish list, or whatever you have in regards to space themed stuff. I would want an STS-78, STS-58, STS-40 and Expedition 2 crew litho, wooden (mahogany?) model of a Soyuz rocket, Suni Williams litho, a couple more space themed shirts and maybe a Buzz Aldrin moon landing swimsuit. |

I have a 'bucket list' of less than 10 astronauts whom I've met but for one reason or another hadn't signed my Space Shuttle: 20 Years book. I'm slowly whittling it down, but it includes John Young, Ken Mattingly and Joe Engle. That, and I have an almost complete STS-90 'Voyager' bridge crew pic that I've had the past 10 years, getting it signed one by one. The last two (there are eight people in the shot): Kay Hire and Alexander Dunlap. |

So far my wishlist has something flown on STS-49, 47, 89, 118, and 134. I am working on a crew signed STS-49 photo. I have Brandenstein. I would also like to get a map of NJ signed by all of the surviving astronauts that were born and raised in NJ. I am also tempted to work on a signed sheet of all of the Jewish astronauts and cosmonauts. |

My own list is kind of humble, and a lot of stuff I either already own or (in the case of publications) have scans that give me what I'm looking for. Anything recovery-oriented is always of interest, but I guess my holy grail there would be an original "Hornet Plus Three" button and an original "Three More Like Before" button, if I can ever find some that won't cost a fortune. Network-issued items are also of interest, but from that the thing that would mean the most would be an ABC News press badge from STS-6. I have very fond memories of watching ABC's coverage of Challenger's first landing that Saturday afternoon in 1983. |

I always wonder who has the best piece of space flight memorabilia and what it is. Has to be some amazing stuff, flown to lunar surface checklist page, etc. |

You're in luck. I've got an STS-6 ABC News Press badge that you can have if you want it. Free of charge. |

Really depends on the era. What is attainable from the Apollo moon landings is vastly different from the Shuttle missions.

I would dearly love to have a flown checklist page from any of the Apollo lunar landing missions. |

I'd really love a astronaut-used flightsuit from training, either the gold, light blue or royal blue color ones with their patches and nameplates.Either that one one of the matching MA-1-style jackets... And I'd really love any military vehicle that can be attributed to NASA use, like an M-35-series 2.5 ton truck or something like that. I'm into military vehicles (and have a WW2 Jeep in the garage) and would love a great 'hobby crossover' item like that to display at vehicle shows. |

Heh! I'm working on a similar thing. Terry Hart sent me a signed poster showing all of NJ taken by the STS-3 crew. So far though, the only NJ astronauts on it are Greg Olsen and Bob Cenker. Hart, who worked in NJ, has signed it and I've also gotten it signed by Jack Lousma. Didn't have it with me when I saw Mark Kelly and I didn't feel comfortable asking Greg Linteris for more than one autograph. As it also shows a bit of Long Island, it's also been signed by Bill Shepherd. |

What is Lousma's connection to NJ? |

Kind of a short list, an AB STS-61E patch, an AB STS-42 Carter patch and a flown STS-50 patch. On the way out there item one of the flight helmets that were used from STS-5 to 51-L. |

A flown item, with provenance trail, from (each) Freedom 7 and Aurora 7. In the last couple of months there have been 2 theoretical Aurora 7 heat shield plugs up for auction. Unfortunately there was no documentation whatsoever with either of them. |

A flag flown to the moon, preferably to the surface. |

What I'd really like: A flown Space Shuttle tile. I already have 3 unflown/unused ones: 2 HRSI (one of which was made for testing and another which was to be used on an orbiter) and an LRSI (which was to be used on an orbiter). A piece of RCC, a SIP pad, a gap filler, and a piece of High Temp Insul. molded insulation (similar to what was used on the APU fuel tanks) as these are more or less the only types of insulation I'm missing from my TPS/TCS collection. An HGU-55 helmet (preferably in current NASA colors). While not NASA used, I already have an identical Gibson & Barnes Nomex flight suit/Nomex flight jacket/pair of Nomex flight gloves, and a pair of Addison flight boots. And finally, a real Mach 25 patch. |

No connection, other than he (or Fullerton) photographed it on STS-3. Kinda like getting the photo of McCandless in the MMU signed by Hoot Gibson. |

I'd love to build a replica Astrovan.I've already got two other Airstreams, so this would make a great tow vehicle! |

My son started the collections... let's see... He is still looking for several pinback buttons from the Mercury-Apollo era, and has recently started collecting shuttle ones. He has the most common ones now and so it's getting harder to find eBay and other listings for the ones he doesn't have. He also has a collection of signed books authored by astronauts. He wants to get Dave Scott to sign his next. Maybe Spacefest V. The kid is a little weird, in that he really doesn't like the autograph as just a signature, it has to go along with meeting the astronaut and interacting with him. He's got a copy of a book by Andy Chaikin that he's had signed by about twenty astronauts. I offered to send it in to get it signed by Mike Collins awhile back, but he didn't want to spend the $$$ on the signature of an astronaut he hadn't met. He was, however, a little frustrated when he met Harrison Schmitt and couldn't get it signed — though he did sign his own book for my son. |

I don't consider that weird at all. I've collected autographs myself and have a couple I've obtained sight unseen (a couple books and one or two photos). But, I prefer the meeting and getting them in person as at that point I can meet and interact with the person I am obtaining them from. That way, the signature has an event behind it that I can look back fondly upon. That way, collecting the "experience" I consider to be more worth while than just having the writing on a piece of paper or photo to collect. As for myself and something I would want to collect, right now I don't really have the money to obtain anything big or good. Give it a couple years and maybe I'll have more of a budget for that. As for things on my "wish" list, I would love to obtain an item or piece of hardware that flew in space onboard a shuttle or the ISS, since those are the space programs of my generation. |

Yeah, good call. I'd love to have the helmet/O2 mask used by an astronaut in the T-38s. A flown piece is a great thing to have, but I think a used training flight item is more 'personal' in relation to the crewmember. They would have little connection to, say, a piece of tile but would probably say, "Oh yeah, I remember wearing that helmet/gloves/flightsuit all the time while going in and out of Ellington..."Most of all, I want one of these: |

Love the idea of the space shuttle tile. That would be a fun item for a collection. Any idea on how much one should be paying for that? I saw some for sale for around 300, but it seemed a little steep to me? |

Intact tiles, even unflown examples, have sold for upwards of $1,000 at auction, so $300 might be considered a good deal. But caveat emptor. Due to export and health concerns (as well as recent examples of outright theft), NASA won't hesitate challenging the sale of shuttle tiles, so make sure any potential purchase has the provenance to prove that it was released from the agency's property through the proper channels. |
