So in the U.S. there is a $640 million lottery drawing. What would you buy — space-related — with the money?

I would buy a Soyuz capsule, not sure what else. The shuttles aren't for sale so I can't buy one of those.

I'm assuming you mean "stuff" other than a secret subterranean base from which I'd launch satellites armed with biochemical weapons to eradicate the human race, following which I would re-populate the planet with pairs of genetically perfected superhuman specimens under my absolute control. Duh.

Absent that option, I'll take a trip to the ISS. And a Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder; azzuro monaco over crema.

What would I do? I'd spend several millions developing a launch vehicle to the point where it was ready for testing. Then I'd think of my poor American cousins and realise that they, not having a Royal family and won the World Cup, might be feeling a little inferior so would do what we British do best and say, "I can't really be bothered with all this." and cancel the whole thing. This would allow those in our former colonies to play about with rockets and space and feel successful.

Oh! yes. What would I call this rocket? How about Blue Streak.

Definitely a trip to ISS if I passed the tests, plus some flown items directly from astronauts.

Oh, and a million dollar donation to ASF to tempt Neil Armstrong to sign one personalised item each for the 100 most regular posters on collectSPACE!

Scott - An S1C IS a house on its own. Heck an SIVB is a house. Just ask the Skylab crews.

Me? I like the idea of giving to the ASF, but I think I'd need a full scale LEM (shows age with old acronym) in the backyard too.

I would buy a seat on a commercial venture down the line. Not sure how much it would end up costing...

And I would get the top tier seating at the Astronaut Scholarship Gala every year. And when I was there I would outbid everyone during the auction and throw around my money like a sir.

I would start my own space exploration company, like SpaceX. Actually, this is what I aspire to do when I am grown up, but I will use my hard earned money to.

And I would buy some Apollo era artifacts, more specifically ones with moondust on them.

Obviously I'm going to book that flight to the ISS first. After that, I'll have a careful think about what the wisest way to spend the remainder is. I don't want to blow it all.

I'd just buy a few odds and ends at first, like the Soyuz TM-12 and TM-11 re-entry capsules, which will take pride of place in my new Great Northern Space Museum. Then I'd probably approach Reaction Engines and/or Excalibur Almaz and see if a financial contribution from me would be helpful (in return for recovering the Prospero satellite for me to display in aforementioned museum). I might even bung a bit of money Starchaser's way provided they can convince me that they won't waste it. Most importantly, I'd get a decent amount of the money properly invested, so I can afford to fly with Virgin Galactic every year.

First, I'd complete my photo collection by purchasing an Apollo 1 crew signed photo along with the other astronauts who died before they had a chance to fly in space, like Givens, Williams, and Freeman, etc. Then, I'd buy the house that Neil Armstrong lived in when he was an astronaut. Who knows what he might have left up in the attic or buried in his back yard?

Finally, I would buy all the original Alan Bean paintings I can find.

I would buy full size replicas of a command module, lunar module, shuttle flight and mid decks, an Apollo 17 lunar space suit, plus a building large enough to put all of these things. I would also try to purchase and invest in real flown items that made it to the lunar surface as well.

I would also attend some of the space functions that the astronauts attend and you can purchase tickets to attend and have dinner with them and where autographs and photos with them take place. I get several notifications and invitations to these events several times a year and most of the Apollo astronauts are in attendance. I would also purchase some of Al Bean's paintings.
