For UK based cS'ers I stumbled on these programmes airing Sunday evening 10th April - not sure if they are repeats but I haven't seen them before. - 8-9pm: The Space Shuttle: A Horizon Guide
A biography of the space shuttle, from triumphs to tragedies, using the BBC archive. - 9-10pm: Storyville - 2010-2011, Knocking on Heaven's Door
Documentary showing how the ideas of a mystic kick-started the Soviet space programme. - 10-11pm: Destination Titan
Film about the space probe sent by British scientists to Titan, Saturn's largest moon. That's my Sunday evening taken care of! |

Though interesting, the shuttle program was largely a re-hash of previous BBC Horizon shuttle documentaries. If you have seen those you did not miss much! |

True Rick: but still worth a watch... And didn't it make you nostalgic for the 'Gung Ho!' era! It'd be soooooooooooo cool to have Rick H, Hoot G, Story M etc at a UK show! |

Sadly the programme “Storyville Knocking on Heaven's Door” which was billed in the Radio Times about Gagarin’s flight, was more about mystics and cranks including the “art” of being enclosed in an aluminium shield and trying to guess what was on the card on the other aide. Apart from a short interviews with one of Gagarin’s family and Korolev’s daughter (or was it granddaughter), and some parts on Tsiolkovsky, much of the programme was about the presenter and mystics. For all the good BBC4 produces, this was dreadful and embarrassing to watch. A wasted opportunity. The “Random Edition” Radio 4 programme on Monday 11th April was far better. |
