I need an accurate earthrise mural for my daughter's playroom. I found a few online but some did not look like the real thing.

This one looks authentic, but how can one tell what mission it might be from? If it's a good photo mural that is fine with me but my daughter will want to know if it is an Apollo 8 picture or Apollo 11, etc. The earth obviously looks different in some of the different earthrise photos. Any help is much appreciated.

Apollo 11. NASA photo AS11-44-6550. I believe that is the Mare Smythii (Smyth's Sea) region of the moon shown. This was taken before Eagle undocked from Columbia for the journey to the lunar surface.

I remember your daughter "Abba" from my book signing at the Cape last year, and I know she can tell you the entire rest of the mission from this point on! Awesome kid.

Yes Francis, that's her!

Some kids would be happy with any space mural, but she will ask what mission it's from and I will have to be ready!

If anyone has any suggestions for wall murals, I would appreciate it. I found the above from a quick search online and it looks pretty good, but I'm sure there are others. The main criteria for us is accuracy.

She saw one on a kids website that was something like a view out a spaceship window with many planets visible. She giggled and said it wasn't very realistic. Ha!

If you want to be realistic the Apollo 8 Earthrise image should really be rotated 90 degrees anticlockwise, but then most people would ask why the poster was stuck on the wall wrong.

I have a 16x20 rotated 90 degrees anti-clockwise at home. At least my two little girls will grow up knowing this is the correct orientation.

All times are CT (US)
