This ground based deep field image rivals the deep fields produced by Hubble. Its primary purpose is to provide astronomers with the most sensitive census of the distant Universe to assist in their study of the formation and evolution of galaxies.
Highly recommend if bandwidth supports, pulling the full resolution image.

Keep in mind as you look at the image, only a few foreground stars are visible; almost every point of light is a galaxy or quasar. And since the field of view is about 14 x 21 arc minutes, that equates to an area less then 1/3rd of 1 degree of the sky in this picture!

This may be a naive question, but...is it possible to say how far we are looking into deep space?
Great photo, thanks

The most deeply red shifted objects in the image are estimated to be ~ 11.5 billion years old (light years distant)...

I feel so small...
I have trouble viewing these images because they just boggle my mind to think how BIG the universe is. My mind can't comprehend it.
