How far to JSC from Austin?

My weeks are all filled but I'll have one weekend completely free. How far of a drive is it to JSC from Austin? Is it an easy drive? This will probably be my only chance to see JSC so I'd like to go if it's not going to take most of the day to get there and back. Google Maps says 3 hours. How correct is that? Thanks!

There are no direct interstate routes from Austin to Houston and the stretch on I45 down to JSC can be pretty packed depending on the time of day, so I'd budget three or four hours.
