In case I don't get the chance later, I hope everyone a Happy New Year and hope that 2007 will be a great year for everyone.

So, what are you plans for '07? It can be space related or otherwise. Share your goals or anticipated milestones coming up.

Personally, after discussing it with the wife, I am hoping to make the STS-118 launch in June. Right now I would say the chances are 60/40 in favor. If I am not able to see the launch, we will still try to make it to KSC. I haven't been there in 21 years.

I am hoping that sometime in the first part of the year I can make it to JSC on a weekend trip. I haven't been there in about 13 years. Of course I will stop by Rocket Town. I'll have to plan this one after my tax refund so I can have some spending money.

2005 was a really crappy year, 2006 was an improvement but still hard, but I am determined to make 2007 a good year.

Hi there,

first there will be Autographica in march. I´m looking forward to shake hands with Jim Lovell and spend some nice day´s in London. Second; I still hope to be able to make it to the Spacefest in Phoenix.
Also I just need to go back to KSC. It´s been 5 years ago since my last visit...that´s just to long.
Not space related....I just hope to pass all the tests that are coming up at university for me.

Regards, Stefan

What the heck - a bit of self-promotion usually doesn't go astray. Having just had the book "NASA's Scientist-Astronauts" (Springer Praxis)released, co-authored with old mate David Shayler, I'm looking forward to having three more co-authored books released next year, which should make for some exciting times. First there will be "Animals in Space" (Springer Praxis) which I co-wrote with collectSPACE regular Chris Dubbs, due for an early '07 release. Then there will be two books detailing the social history of human spaceflight from 1961-1969, which I have co-authored with another collectSPACE regular and long-time friend, Francis French. These books are "Into That Silent Sea: Trailblazers of the Space Era 1961-1965," due for release by the University of Nebraska Press in April, and "In the Shadow of the Moon: A Challenging Journey to Tranquility, 1965-1969," set for release around August next year. These are just the first two books in a ten-book series on the social history of space flight for which I am the press's series editor, and we are anticipating having a series launch party with some special guests in Nebraska around August next year, although most details have yet to be confirmed.

On a personal level, my wife and I are very excited about going on a Trans-Siberian rail trip that will see us arriving in Moscow for the very first time, while in September we are flying over to Florida to watch Pam Melroy and her crew take STS-120 into the skies. It will only be my second ever launch, having seen John Glenn realise his long-held dream of launching on a second flight aboard STS-95 in 1998.

There's also another space book on the drawing boards, to be co-authored with yet another long-time friend and spaceflight historian. Unfortunately I can't reveal any details at this preliminary stage, but it will certainly keep both of us occupied for a number of months to come.

So roll on '07 - I'm ready!

Colin

I'm planning on updating and expanding my website - spaceemblemart.com, and in July watching my son leave for the Navy.
