I hope you all will pause to reflect on the meaning of this date and what it means to us today. Our world changed forever because of Pearl Harbor and we owe a great debt of gratitude to the men and women who served that day, especially the ones that didn't survive. We should also remember all the others who died in the great conflict that followed. Pearl was just the beginning, it would take four more years and millions of lives before it ended. I hope you honor them in your own way at some point during the day. |

We should also take time to remember those who fought and died in the war prior to 12/7/41 as well.As an American, I have nothing but the greatest respect for those who fought during the dark years of 1939-1941...especially the British pilots who saved their home soil during the Battle of Britain. Without that victory, the war would have been much longer and much more costly. I salute those whose sacrifices ultimately saved countless others. [Edited by mjanovec (December 08, 2006).] |

Yesterday I remembered to wear my lapel pin flag in honor to the more than 2,400 men who lost their lives on that horrible day 65 years ago. While preparing for work I watched the History Channel's recreation of that day and the accounts of those veterans who are still alive. The price of our freedom has always been paid with the blood of our servicemen and women. |

My father fought at Iwo Jima and until recently would have nothing to do with anything associated with the Japanese. Somehow a few years ago he let go of the hate. In fact he now owns a Japanese made car. Meeting many of the astronauts over the last few years has been a dream come true, and I have tremendous respect for them and what they have done, but my father is still my only hero! |
