Has anyone ever been a winning bidder on or seller of an item on eBay and it turned out the other party was not who you expected (i.e., they were a celebrity or relative of one)?

A few months ago I won a check on eBay signed by Rod Serling. When I was sent the invoice, I saw that the person selling it had the last name Serling. I looked up the name on the web and it turned out to be his daughter! I wrote her and told her I really admired her dad and regretted that I'd never been able to tell him personally (Serling passed away in 1975). She wrote back and said in part, "Thank you very much for the kind words about my father. He is so missed by so many."

Anyone have anything similar happen? I'm sure others have had similar experiences. Just curious.

I recently saw an auction of some Mercury photos that were offered by somebody who said in the description he was the son of Wally Schirra.

I sold a 1st edition of Bob Morgans book on ebay to find out that his wife was the buyer because he never owned a first edition of his own book. I ended up sending them 6 copies. This was just before his accident, but he was very kind and signed a book for my father.

Hi Scott.....I had a similar thing happen on Ebay. I was in a "bidding war" with someone over a signed Iven Kincheloe photo about 4 years ago. I won the bidding and noticed that the person I was bidding against had the moniker of "kinch 1" so I thought he was just a fan. The guy wrote me to congratulate me for getting the photo. It turned out to be Iven's brother !! I ended up offering the photo to him but he could not afford it. I made him a color print on heavy cardstock which he now has framed at home and we have been friends ever since and often compare notes etc. Very Odd whom you meet very Ebay !!....Don

Luke Halpin (Sandy Rick's) of the 60's TV show "Flipper" sells items on e-bay all the time. Also Elvis Presley's best friend Sonny West does,as does Loretta Lynn's family.I also know that A.J. Foyt has in the past, as has both of the Andretti's. Chubby Checker has also. I know that there are many more but their names escape me at this time.
