I just this weekend moved into a new home. My question is: I have a few requests still out that I really want to get. Would it be appropriate to send follow-up letters with new address labels to those, or should I just rely on the post office's forwarding service?
Among them is Harrison Schmitt sent in May, and Sally Ride (paid fee for three items) send in June (she deposited the check the next month, and I still haven't heard from her... is this normal? Sheesh, you'd think her CAIB work is more important than signing for me<g> ).

I also have Apt, Blaha, Cockrell, Engle, Helms, and Stott out for three and a half to five months, but nothing I couldn't send again later if they never arrive.

Thanks!

Hi David
Good luck on your move.
As a postman here in the UK I understand your problem. As a rule of thumb most people over here have their mail redirected (which you pay)usually its around the 3 to 6 months mark after that its normaly junk mail that gets redirected (as Banks Businesses and relatives etc should know your address by then).
Unless you still live near your old house and are on good terms with the new occupiers I personally would keep the mail redirected till at least Spring time next year.
Your other problem is Jack Schmitt,we all know on this site how long it can take to receive items from him.Sending him a letter with your Fwd address might work.
I hope this helps a little.
wish you all the best
Ian

When I moved last year, I also had a few requests out.

Mail forwarding through the USPS has worked very well for me (thank you post office!) I was hesitant to confuse matters by sending letters to the people with whom I had requests out to.

I also wrote to the new residents of my old apartment and asked them to please call or email me if they received any of my mail, which they did. I gave them my address and they kindly forwarded the mail on to me.

Good luck!
