First you'd have the challenge of getting it there, re-supplying it, maintaining an orbit and waiting 7 months for a crew to arrive.Don't see any point - yet. Establishing a base on one of its moons, and taking trips to the red planet from there would be ideal. I recently had the opportunity to meet with a few JPL team members responsible for processing the stereo images from the rovers, and they are so excited about the next couple of missions, they were like little kids. As mentioned before in another thread, next year in space is going to be quite profound. I think the ISS is better of in Earth orbit. Besides, even if you could get it there, stopping once you got there would be a phenomenal challenge. I don't imagine ISS has thrust capability for sufficient retro-firing, and wouldn't be anywhere near sturdy enough for aerobraking. | |
