Army National Guard and BelCar Racing To Honor Columbia - DAYTONA BEACH, F.L. (February 8, 2003) – The No. 54 Army National Guard Ford driven by Todd Bodine during the NASCAR Winston Cup Series events, the Budweiser Shootout and the Daytona 500 will honor the memory of the seven astronauts who lost their lives onboard the space shuttle Columbia. The No. 54 Army National Guard Ford will feature the STS 107 mission flight patch on the car’s hood, and B-pillars. The presence of the decal represents the voice of 350,000 National Guardsmen who are acknowledging the efforts of Columbia’s commander Rick Husband; pilot William McCool; payload commander Michael Anderson; mission specialists David Brown, Laurel Clark and Kalpana Chawla; and Israel's first astronaut, payload specialist Ilan Ramon. “It will be an honor to carry this important message,” said Bodine. “Our thoughts and prayers are with these fallen heroes and their families. We will never forget them.”
