I just got the neatest item off eBay... a six pack, in the original carton, of Apollo Beer.

This beer was produced by The Big Bang Brewery in St Paul, Minn. The logo is a crescent moon with a very slim line Saturn V rocket, on a deep blue glass bottle.

The phrase "From another world, aged ale, but aged on very earthly oak, with a character that's ever expanding, like the universe itself, you can almost taste the vast dimensions of space, Apollo, space-crafted ale."

I, of course, cannot open and drink this nectar due to my analness of collecting, but would like to know if any of you have seen this beer and has anyone tasted it?

From what I understand the brewery has since closed.

As dumb as this may sound, today I received a crew signed Apollo 14 and 16... but this beer has got me grinning from ear to ear.

Dave, the beer was great! I tried to order some for my Super Bowl party for my astronomy club buddies and found out that the beer was no longer in production (so we had to watch the Pats win with Heineken and Amstel). I did save a few bottles (empty I must admit) and they are very nice collectors items. Once I was in a restaurant in Philly and they were using the empty bottles of Apollo Beer in the center of each table with a few flowers stuck in them!! Wonderful centerpieces.

I say drink the beer and save the empties!! You could probably resell the empties on eBay!

How much did you pay?

I paid $6.50 for the lot. That's about what it costs for a six of Bud in the Islands (the freight was more than the beer).

I just can't think of the right occasion to pop'em... Hawaii doesn't have any pro ball teams (Areana Football doesn't count), and with a last name of Mulligan, they won't let me near the Pro Golf tourneys.

Maybe when I get a Neil Armstrong SP in mint condition, that's when I'll celebrate.

I got it! ...when Cindy Crawford gets the nod for the next "Space Tourist" and she can take one guest and she chooses me, I'll offer to bring the beer. Yeah that's the ticket.

How old is that stuff? If you want to drink it just for the hell of it, great, but don't expect it to be good if it's vintage from the Apollo years...

On my last trip to Kennedy Space Center, I noticed at the Visitor Center's gift shop that they had ash trays which were made of Apollo Beer Bottles, melted down and flattened (you could still read the writing on the bottle though).

I believe these particular bottles were left over from an Apollo anniversary celebration at the Saturn V Center, where if memory serves me correctly, the beer was served to invited guests. (Not sure if they bottled the beer for the occasion or if someone had the beer squirreled away somewhere...)

What a shock! I just bought an Apollo Beer bottle on eBay. It arrived today and it is HUGE! It is a full 22 inches in height and is really heavy... and empty.

The seller said that he won it in a sales contest and that only 25 of this gigantic bottle were made. I have several of the small Apollo Beer bottles but this one is a monster!

Now that I have it... what the heck do I do with it? I guess I will fill it with pennies. Has anybody out there ever heard of this huge bottle? An oddity indeed!

Is the bigger bottle made of the same blue glass as the smaller ones? Does it have the same inscription? It's gotta be from the same brewery. That sounds pretty cool.

How about you try and fill it with ...moon dust! Great find,
