I am curious about Hot Shots autographed cards and am hopeing to get some information. They seem to be a collectable that no one ever talks about, nobody is interested in collecting them, and, from what I've seen, nothing has ever been written about them. Is this an area of collection that is discounted? Was it ever popular? Does anyone collect them? Why do most astronauts refuse to sign them? I do see them come up for sale from time to time... but always from the same few astronauts. Why is that?Noah mensax@yahoo.com |

Yes, Space Shots cards. I guess I should have been more specific. They are the space equivilent of a baseball card. Noah |

Ok, we are on the same wave here..... I really don't know why astros don't sign them, maybe someone with better autograph experience will know. They were the brain child of Ed White III. I think there were 3 editions made. There was supposed to be a 4th edition that never happened. (???) The idea didn't take off, so to speak, as good as they thought it would. So the ones that are out there are few and far between. Sorry the details are sketchy, it's just been so long since I have heard anything about them. ------------------ Cindy |

From what I understand.. there was not any discussion amongst the astronauts about use of their likenesses for the cards, nor any compensation to them for the use of their pictures.. so many do not like to sign them. That is the story I heard, and I'm sticking to it..

About a year ago, I sent Alan Bean a "Space Shot" card, showing Gemini 10 back-up pilot C.C. Williams training for a space walk. Bean, who was the back-up command pilot for that flight, kindly signed it for me. |

If you are going by what you always see on places like Ebay..... yes it would really seem like there are only a few astronauts that are willing to sign Space Shots cards. However a buddy of mine has sent out quite a few, and has never had one returned unsigned. I don't know how others feel, but they do make a great piece to sign ( Especially if you happen to be a sports card collector ) and alot of the shuttle crews are more than willing to sign them. Enjoy the weekend! From The Last Frontier.......... Mike |
