I place serveral bids in the recent superior auction using ebays live bidding, I experienced one problem with one of my bids, I clicked to bid at the starting value of $130, about three seconds later the page showed the floor bid of $450 followed by a bid for myself of $475.I emailed superior and ebay premier support about the problem, ebay told me that their system is not able to place the wrong bid, and I should contact superior. I found their attitude really offensive, they were implying that I was dishonest and their system is perfect. How on earth can I prove that I submitted the bid for $130. I have asked to raise a complaint with ebay premier, but I am fighting against their prejudice. I would really appreciate any advice on how to progress the issue with ebay premier. Thankyou, pauljenkinson@hotmail.com |

I think you would probably do better with approaching Superior themselves, explain what happened, and hope they have a sympathetic ear. Their dilema will be that if they retract your bid the lot remains unsold and they then have an unhappy consigner as opposed to an unhappy buyer. Joe |

Thanks for the advice Joe, I have already emailed superior about the problem. I was hoping to get some support from ebay to help my case, but that's going to work against me now, I will give them a call.Paul |

Just got a reply from superior, they have got another buyer for lot 915, that's good news.Unfotunately they also told me that another lot I thought I had one on the live bidding system had gone to different internet bidder. Ebays system displayed my name against the bid on the page, and informed me that I was the winner after the bid had closed. I am not going to rely on ebays system for my bids in future. |

I am curious if there were any satisfied customers that used eBay?I was on the floor and saw the piece I wanted the most just go out beyond my means to an eBay bidder. Personally, I found it too competitive for my tastes, but I had the unique advantage of attending. Certainly Superior benefits from opening up the floor to the cyber world, and I wouldn't expect them not to do it again. Afterall, they have the right to be competitive and get the most for their sellers and themselves. Down the road, I may be thinning my collection a bit and I would hope for top dollar from an auction like Superior's. But, back to my begining point... were there satisfied eBay bidders?

Every bid I placed via ebay worked and I have been invoiced by Superior for those amounts + commissions. There weren't any surprises for me. I'm sorry to hear that there have been problems with reconciling the bids with the bidders. Although one year I won an item from the floor at the auction, and someone else thought they had won it, insisted they had. The people at Superior called me and verified that I had won it, they had my bid number as the lot winner and wanted to make sure they hadn't made a mistake in taking down the number but they hadn't. There are things that go wrong even when participating at the auction in person. I don't know the particulars of the system ebay is using though I find it interesting that there are two different bidders showing for the same lot in two different places. It appears that one transaction got through to one table and another got through to another in their database. I'm not a DBA but it looks as though they do have a problem. It may not be isolated either and they have never noticed it before. FWIW, Lynda |

I recall many times at the auction where the hammer had gone down, and the eBay reps called out a new bid from the Internet. For the most part I recall Superior was very conscientious and gave the Internet bid the benefit if the reps hand was starting to move as the hammer came down. I would honestly say Superior was very fair, but from my inexperienced vantagepoint I could see where there might be a discrepancy between the floor and the Internet at times. I believe that the Internet/eBay bid would appear on a PC monitor, then the rep would flash a card indicating to Superior reps at the stand that there was a bid. Theoretically, there could be a time lag between hitting enter on your home PC, your message traveling through the Internet, then going through eBay's system, then transmitting to Santa Monica, then having the rep see the bid on the screen and raising their hand! WOW! You know what? It is amazing how well it went off. I mean really, when you think about it, the Superior people did a fantastic job!

What ISP did everyone use? Did the people with bidding problems use AOL? Or did AOL's service work without any problem? Just curious if the bidding problems can be isolated by ISP.Jeff |

I don't believe it's isolated to ISPs. I couldn't get the Webcast on my DSL line, due to router config problem. So I dialed in to my other ISP. I have good phone lines and usually have a good connection via modem. I have a fairly fast computer with a lot of RAM. All those things make a difference. It is not just one thing or another. I was disappointed that the DSL line wouldn't work with the Webcast but, oh well. My dial up connection didn't waver. My ISP is not AOL. Lynda

I am based in the UK and use a cable modem with ntlworld. I have tried several isp's over the years, my current setup has been the fastest and most reliable. I ran several tests when I joined, speed averaged about 650 kbit/s, with peaks at 1.5 mbit/s.Paul |
