Hello, everyone! I've been lurking for a while and just thought I'd let you guys talk and learn from those who are more experienced, but I just got so excited I had to post this. This past weekend I got the opportunity to meet astronauts Alan Bean and Rick Searfoss. These men are just wonderful to meet--willing to talk not only about their experiences, but about your experiences, totally willing to get their pictures taken with you. And the public relations work they are doing for NASA and the space program is IMO invaluable. I highly recommend that if you get the chance to meet either or both of these men, go for it! They're both great!

Hi Barbara

Welcome to collectSPACE. It's great to hear from another female enthusiast. I think so far there are 5 of us on this site now.
I met Alan Bean last year and he was brilliant. My 10 year old son had done a painting of the Eagle on the moon and Alan Bean signed it "To AJ Great Painting - Alan Bean" He was so encouraging to my son to continue his painting. For me it was a dream come true. I not only met one Apollo astronaut but 4. I also met Ed Mitchell, Richard Gordon and Walt Cunningham. This year I too will be meeting Rick Searfoss, and also Alexei Leonov. I can't wait and once I get my website organised I will be able to post my photographs on it.

I hope you enjoy your time with collectSPACE. I wouldn't be without it now.

I knew their had to be more of us around than people think...

I would love to meet Alan Bean, but have never had the opportunity. He seems like such a contradiction to stereotypes, and with such a unique perspective on the space program. My son is considered by his classmates quite an artist, which used to annoy him (since he wanted to grow up to design cars, or rockets, or study bugs, or who-knows-what)until he realized that an artistic eye would be an asset in whatever path he chooses. I am hoping for an opportunity for him to meet Mr. Bean.

Alan Bean is great! I met him at a booksigning when I had him sign his book of paintings. Definately one of the friendliest astronauts that I have met so far. Great guy!

Hmmm...now if I could just afford some of his paintings....*sigh*
