Anyone want to comment on what this object is? Is it fake? Is it a contrail? I Bruce W York filmed this today saturday after noon 2/8/2014 at aprox 5:00 pm. Did anyone else see anything around this time in the sky? Does anyone know what this is or was? |

Here is a pretty convincing argument that it is a jet contrail, lit by the low sun which cast a shadow behind it. |

Agreed. The thing that had me stumped was the way it did not seem to move, was pretty thick at what appeared to be "the front" of the trail, and the area that looked like black smoke. Thanks for finding the link for the explanation. I searched and searched this morning but came up empty. Fun stuff. |

Yes, I have to agree also.As a contrail can suddenly seem to stop when it enters a different wind conditions and temperatures. |

Could easily be a contrail or cloud going up at an angle away from the viewer, with the bottom part illumated by low-angle sun and the upper shaded by clouds from behind the viewer's shoulder. |
