Okay, if you won the $290 million, or took the lump sum of $163 million, what space-related activity would you do?The first thing that would come to my mind is forking out $20 million for the ISS holiday. When one has won that much money, what is $20 million? What kind of space mega shopping spree would you go on? Trips to all of the space centers and museums? I'm just going to sit back and drool about the possibilities. ------------------ Brian Peter astronautbrian@hotmail.com |

The first thing that comes to mind is that the lump sum equals 8 trips via Soyuz, assuming there's no frequent flyer discount. I'd be the spaceflight record holder! |

Step 1: I'd pay a visit to the Garber Institute and spend a few days looking at all the Apollo suits.Step 2: I'd pick the one in best condition. Step 3: I'd start putting down million-dollar heaps until the Smithsonian suddenly decided they could live without that particular suit in their collection. I reckon $290 million might just bag me a flown lunar suit. Step 4: Die horribly at the hands of my enraged wife. Cheers, Matt ------------------

Restoring the Saturn Vs in Houston and Huntsville in grand style!I'm sure I'd be able to find a few other similar "worthy" enterprises as well. |

I'd probably buy every flown item of note (flag, patch, hardware, EVA mitten) at every auction of note (Aurora, Swann etc) for the next 10 years. In the immediate term, I'd join Matt T at Garber in an effort to prize away an Apollo suit, though strictly for "research" purposes; the research in mind would have me parading around my living room in between autions in the said suit "beeping" into my comms cap and mimicking Dave Scott or Gene Cernan on the lunar surface. Though I'm not greedy. I'd settle for a training suit. Any way, must dash. A van with several men dressed in white and clutching a striaght jacket have just pulled up the drive....... Regards, Rick. |

In 2002 or 2003, CNN, each time there was a Powerball or similar jackpot, asked viewers to submit "what they would do if they won" via email. Not once, but TWICE (once on cnn, once on cnn Headline News) my name was the first mentioned-- both times for saying I would take the 20 million dollar ride to the Station :-) It was somethng like "Ben Cooper in Brooklyn writes, I would pay the Russians 20 million dollars to visist the Int'l Space Station...then I would do it again" One of those times, Miles [O'Brian for those who don't know] was hosting Live Today...but apparently he didn't notice since he didn't sayt anything :-) I think I have my clips on tape somewhere. ------------------ -Ben http://www.geocities.com/ovcolumbia/ |
