Prior postings provide a good tutorial and refresher on the Apollo docking system. However, a quick search has not answered the following question: After the CSM undocked from the Skylab, the drogue must have been left in place in the Multiple Docking Adapter for subsequent visits. But what was the configuration and fate of the CM docking system? - Was the probe in place, to be jettisoned along with the docking ring as required before re-entry? (Presumably "yes".)
- When during the re-entry process was the ring (and presumably the probe) jettisoned, to avoid fouling the parachutes?
- before the de-orbit maneuver (thus precluding a re-docking if needed to avoid re-enacting "Marooned")?
- after the de-orbit maneuver, when absolutely no longer needed?
This is for a little project I'm working on. Answers with links to documentation will be tremendously appreciated. And if I find out, I will post it here. |

After the de-orbit maneuver, apparently. Here is page 10-65 from the Skylab 3 (Bean crew) Mission Report. It looks like the sequence of events was:
- de-orbit maneuver
- SM separation
- docking ring and probe jettison
- re-entry
