Can anyone direct me to a guide or manual that that details how the Apollo capsule was assembled?

Not looking for painstaking detail, just a good overview with drawings, a block diagram level of sorts, of the steps from beginning to end, to assemble the major components. A rough guide for the assembly person out on the shop floor.

Can you clarify? Are you seeking the assembly process or a discussion of the CSM sub-systems and their inter-relationship with each other?

The best thing I can think of is:

I've just been hired by North American as a technician who will be assigned to the team building the Apollo capsules. My boss has given me a manual to study that shows how we are going to assemble this thing. The spacecraft will move from one assembly station to the next as more pieces are added.

I may be assigned to various mounts and need some overall view of what I will be expected to do at each station.

I have worked in a factory assembly environment for years and am a model rocket builder, just curious how a builder of Apollo would do his job.

Tall order - many of us would enjoy reviewing documentation on the actual assembly process. There are two locations where this information could exist - the Aerospace Legacy Foundation may hold; one other possibility is within the repositories of the National Archives Fort Worth. If you locate what your seeking please do let this forum know.

Me too, I would be interested. I find such a document like this but in more detail (for example):

If anyone's interested in the LM document to which Apolloman refers, it is the Lunar Module Subsystem Assembly and Installations.

Correct, thank you, I forgot to mention.

My question is: there exists a document similar to that of Lunar Module Subsystem Assembly and Installations?

This Lunar Module document is great, do you have it in a pdf form that I can download? Perhaps North American had something similar for Apollo module.

Thanks Apolloman, now I just have to figure out how to print out a hard copy (I'm old school, got to hold it in my hand to read), especially pages 37-38, the original appears to have used 11.5-34.0 paper.

All times are CT (US)
