I was just watching the "From The Earth To The Moon" Apollo 7 episode where they have to ride the flying fox down to the ground. I notice that the harness was a system that had individual loops around each arm.
To me, that seems a little unsafe. It would be relatively easy for a person to fall out of that rig. The normal way would be to use a 'horse collar' or what we referred to as the Nowra strop. This looped under the arm, around the back, then under the arm to meet up with the other end.
Does anyone know if the representation in the episode was correct, and if so, why the configuration was chosen?

Yes, this is the correct configuration. Check the bottom of this page and you will see a picture of the slidewire in use.
