Question related to the Apollo 11/rendezvous radar/1202 alarm, Aldrin clearly states in "In The Shadow of the Moon" that he purposely left it on. I was always was under the impression it was left on by mistake. Did the "check list" call for it to be turned off and Aldrin really did disregard this procedure? Was he really that concerned about needing it in the event of an abort as he implies in the movie?

The rendezvous radar will be pointed away from the sun and will be turned off when no functional use is required to prevent overheating of the antenna.

So it appears that he did leave it on when it really should have been turned off - or is this an urban legend

All times are CT (US)
