Not to be morbid, nor dishonor our heroes in any way, but mortality kind of hit me at Spacefest 2007. With Wally's passing this past spring, we've reached a time when there are now more crews missing someone than are complete. Looking at how many full crews are still with us, and those having a single member remaining, is a bit sobering. With so few Apollo crewmen to begin with, one more absence seems even more heartbreaking. There's just one representative from: Apollo's 7 & 14 Partial crews: 12, 13, 15, 17 The full crews: 8, 9, 10, 11, 16 Thinking of our fallen heroes and absent friends. RIP. -- John W |

Also on the Soviet side, we have lost half of the original "Vostok 6," the first to fly. And so far, they have died exactly in order of flight. Which, if I were Pavel Popovich (fourth to fly), I'd find rather unnerving. |

And of course on an even more sombre note, let's not forget the original GT-9 crew of Elliot See and Charlie Bassett, and the original Apollo 1 crew of Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee.Colin | |
