Hello All:
Does anyone know where I might locate voice recordings from the Mercury missions?
Thanks,
Don

Amen to that--the voice recordings virtually transform the transcripts. Talk about guys sounding cool. And I don't mean this in beat-generation lingo. I mean ice-cold.

My research dream one day is to have transcipt in hand, audio through headsets, and pen and paper for notes.

I DO think the Library of Congress has all the audio. But a researcher must report to those august premises to do the listening.

I could provide a link here, but am presently making dinner. Re-finding the link might take a while.

Isn't Spacecraft Films coming out with a DVD on the Mercury flights like they did for Gemini and Apollo?

That will certainly have all the audios.

A search of the LoC's online catalog reveals audio for the flights of Glenn, Carpenter, and portions of Cooper's flight (Cooper-Carpenter transmissions over Hawaii).

The audio appears to have been supplied by NBC radio, pressed into 33 and 1/3 rpm records.

Incidentally, the LoC has photographs (which it will reproduce and send to those interested) of Grissom and Young in their tickertape parade.

I also saw a photograph of Glenn and Carpenter testifying before the subcomittee on the role of women in space (July 1962). It too can be purchased. If you can master the online site, that is.

Below is the link to the Glenn audio available at the LoC.

Question: Where is all the audio for these historic flights?????

My apologies.

Edit your post to remove the spaces between search and arg and search and code and name and & and it might work then.
