I'd like to hear your opinion about this Alan Shepard's signature from his book Moon Shot:

As Alan Shepard would say...it's A-O.K.

Is there any value difference/preference between a bookplate signature and a flat signed book? Also, in general, do collectors, prefer signed photos/lithos over signed books? Thanks.

In general, flat-signed books are somewhat more desirable than bookplates. It means the author actually held the book and signed it, rather than a sticker. But there are exceptions in certain scenarios. A detailed, difficult-to-replicate bookplate can help authenticate the signature.

In either case, an officially-signed book is always worth most. A book with a tipped-in signed page, or an Easton Press edition, or a book that's specifically noted as a Signed Edition on the copyright page is always best, because the signature is reliably authentic.

In most cases, a signed litho/photo will be worth more than a signed book. They're easier to display, and demand is higher. But in most cases, it's not a huge gap. And there are so many other considerations. The specific image used, whether or not it's personalized to someone, whether it includes an inscription, the signature's placement/contrast on the photo, and many other things can change the value dramatically.

From what I can see of the bookplate it appears the same as other Shepard signed Moonshot bookplates.

Makes sense, thank you for the replies. The signed paperback was listed for 29.99, it sold quickly.

It's a much nicer signature than the one scribbled on my copy of Moon Shot.

A moonwalker's signature for $29.99 is a good deal no matter what the format. This was a nice signature.
