I have an STS-9 flown patch 16 by 20 inch display signed by most of the crew including John Young (missing one crew member) and I am trying to figure out a fair value, but I can not find any other STS-9 displays to have sold.

Has anyone ever seen one of these sell and more over does anyone have an idea of a fair value? Any information is appreciated.

Flown patch presentations typically run $175-300 depending on the patch and mission, but the Young autograph adds a premium.

It is actually missing two crew members (Shaw and Garriott). Ockels was the backup for Merbold.

Just noticed that myself with pilot Shaw and MS-Garriott missing, but ESA-Ockels was included, while not a prime crewman. But the Young signature is definite genuine, Chuck, but unfortunate that other flight crew members were not on the montage.

Very nice. It's tough to find anything from STS-9. In the years it took me to complete my John Young suite the STS-9 items that took the longest to find were a flown patch and a signed cover. They were also the last items I needed to complete the suite.

I found an unsigned patch and flag display through a gracious cS member and the crew signed cover through one of the American Space Museum auctions. I would not be surprised if the display sold in the $800-$1,000 range if it was put up for auction.

I have an STS-9 presentation piece with patch and Kentucky state flag on record that sold on eBay in 2019 for $350.

It's only signed by NASA Administrator Beggs and I don't know whether that was handsigned.

Ken, I also have one full crew signed but this is the only one I have ever seen. I also have an STS-9 flown flag and patch display given to William DerBing and signed only by John Young.

The two displays are not official NASA crew displays (montages) from the STS-9 crew. In my opinion they are selfmade displays and therefore it is not certified that the STS-9 patches are a flown.

The NASA montages never have a caption under the photos. Two different fonts and font sizes were also used in these displays. The signature of John Young does not necessarily mean that the patches are flown.

Lunar Legacies earlier this year in January: Lot 520: Shannon Lucid's STS-9 Flown Patch & Cue Card on Crew-Signed Montage went for $800. Inscribed by Young, missing Merbold and Lichtenberg.

You state your opinion of self made as a fact. These are NASA issued and come from the head of the Houston PAO.

All times are CT (US)
