I won an auction on eBay NASA STS-100 Space Shuttle "Endeavor" Flown American Flag Attached To Certificate and it looks to be the exact presentation pictured on Souvenirs of Space.

It looked off to me on close inspection and tonight I had time to take apart the frame and found that the certificate is printed on Fujifilm Pictro Paper and the image does not even stretch to the edge of the paper. Does anyone else have one of these presentations or knowledge about if they ever produced them like this?

Thank you for sharing this information. Is it possible for you to post some photos of the unframed presentation including the back? Were there any reference numbers on the back of either the frame or photo?

Documenting what you see will hopefully help in determining more about the origin of the presentation.

The website you reference is updated regularly based on information posted here, including items as they come across the public auctions spaces, and discussions provided by cS members. As it is not possible for me to view all aspects of every item at auction in person, I rely on information like that which you have provided to determine whether or not a given presentation should be included.

There are flag/patch presentations, especially for later flights, that were made with composites of digital photos printed on one sheet and framed. It would be helpful to know if someone else has a similar presentation from around the same time period (or even STS-100) that matches production techniques of the one posted above.

The STS-108 Flags for Heroes and Families presentations used the same layout and photos. I have one, received directly from NASA, so I know it is authentic.

The background print extends to the edges of the paper. The back is clean white.

What concerns me about the STS-100 display is the mounting of the flag. Most of the NASA presentations I have seen from that time frame have the flag solidly and cleanly glued down with no large wrinkles or raised fabric.

The American flag looks too clean and is a little oversized in my opinion.

Here is the front and back of the presentation:

Tough to see in photo but the flag is affixed by a square of double-sided clear adhesive.

I must admit I'm surprised and disappointed to see that modern NASA flown flag presentations are produced as simple photos. I've always been nervous of the potential for fakes being produced but this makes it ridiculously easy for scammers.

That's why I posted this. I've never seen one produced like this. Seller provided some details:
I received the item from a gentleman who worked on the space shuttle program, he was a neighbor of mine. He assured me that it's authentic. He informed me that there were numerous awards like these given out to program managers of the program. It's not the only one out there.

I believe he mentioned that the programs he was assigned to was for an auxiliary power unit for the shuttle.

The company he worked for was United technologies, Sundstrand, a subsidiary that made numerous Shuttle parts.

If nobody has seen a similar presentation or feels it has issues he has offered I can return it.

As pictured on Souvenirs of Space, there is a similar style presentation of an STS-98 flown flag that was awarded to Sally Ride and is now part of the National Air and Space Museum's collection.

On that display, and on the STS-108 display, the flags are mounted without any wrinkles or lifted edges. The same is true for other style flown flag presentations from the same time frame.

The closest I have found of a similar flag mount is this STS-135 presentation (also pictured on Souvenirs of Space).

All times are CT (US)
