From the "What fresh heck is this?" department: an eBay seller got a stack of 1960s index cards (nicely darkened with age), and is using a color printer to put astronaut autographs on them. eBay item 292010856362, with the Apollo 1 crew, is an example. You can scroll down to see others he has with Armstrong, Anders, etc. At least the listing is written to clearly show they are reproductions, but some of these will probably start appearing elsewhere. Just another thing to look out for! |

Same concept as the "reproduction" signed baseballs now often seen on eBay. Babe Ruth, Apollo 11, FDR... you name it, they are printing signatures on old looking baseballs. In hand they are obvious to a trained eye, but they can look convincing in a photo. |

Yes, I have noticed the alarming number of reprints on eBay, but hate it when they are only marked as "RP." |

The problem with these reprints/replica is always when they get sold by a third-party (e.g. after a collector passed away) with little knowledge as real - you can't really make it out from a scan sometimes (unless you know the item before). That's the big trouble...Aside this problem - what's the copyright situation in the US? If you copy Buzz Aldrin's signature multiple times for profit, I wonder if that's legal? Maybe someone tell Buzz or better Lois (if she still holds 50% of the rights). I just hate these reprints... |

Not much of a difference between this stuff and autopens in my opinion. But I agree, reprints always bother me. As with anything, it's down to knowledge, study and referrals when you're not sure. Disclosure is fine, deceit is not. |

In my opinion there is a huge difference between NASA issued autopens used to respond to the thousands of astronaut autograph requests and ink jet printed reproductions. As it has always been scammers will try and sell both as real but autopen signatures are well documented and copies are real signatures printed on. It will be an issue in the future I am sure. |

Don't get me wrong, I collect autopens with a passion and have a full and complete collection. Hundreds of them in fact as it was a cheap means of entry into the passion. |
