This sure looks like John Glenn's writing. The "Capt. John H. Glenn" rather than Major John H. Glenn is odd. Any opinions? |

I too thought it has some interesting characteristics but couldn't come to a solid conclusion. |

In my exemplar files I have a letter from Glenn dated September 1961, and he was already a Lt. Colonel at that point. The envelope in question is postmarked 1962 and indicates Captain. So unless he was demoted between 1961 and 1962, I think it's safe to call this a fake. The writing isn't a very close match either. |

Well said Steve, as Glenn was a Marine Lt. Colonel when he flew America's first manned orbital space flight mission. Actually, in Feb. 1953, he was promoted to Major after his return from the Korean War.Six years later, in April 1959, Glenn had been promoted to Lt. Colonel, the senior NASA astronaut in rank and age during the Mercury program years. It wasn't until Oct. 1964 when President Johnson in a White House ceremony promoted John H. Glenn, Jr. to the rank of a full Colonel. Shortly thereafter, three months later in Jan. 1965, he retires from the U.S. Marine Corps. |

My guess would be that a well-meaning family member 60 years ago wrote it as a present for a kid (Master Keith Guzzi). It's all written very well in fountain pen (I believe), which few people know how to use these days. A forger who could write that well in fountain pen probably would have tried to do a better job on the handwriting. |

Ken, John Glenn was already a Major during his exchange tour with the USAF in Korea, as can be seen in photos and more recent profile art of 'his' F-86, "Mig Mad Marine/Lyn-Annie-Dave I." |

David, I was the seller of that cover so if you'd like to shred it given that experts here agree that its not penned in the hand of Glenn, I would refund your money immediately. I am 100% comfortable with the description I tagged on the item, as I certainly didn't claim it absolutely to be written by Glenn, but again, a refund is yours if you contact me. I'm an honest guy. Please email me. |

I echo Al above. Jason is good people, and honest to a fault. Jason made good on the return. I tried to leave positive eBay feedback, but eBay has removed my feedback access to this item. |
