I'd be interested to know if anyone has any information about this helmet, currently on eBay. The seller's only information is that it came from a collection in Florida.

I am curious because a year or two ago I bought a very similar helmet. The only difference is that the eBay one has an additional opening at the top front. Besides that: same shape, color, interior, two openings at the bottom, and "Critical Space Item" sticker at the back.

I got mine at an auction that had many space items. However, if someone just stuck "Critical Space Item" stickers on totally unrelated helmets for some reason, I won't be too upset — I got mine for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less than the asking price for the eBay one. I'd just like to know more about what I have.

Here are pictures of mine:

Yours looks like a motorcycle helmet.
Interviewer: "Is that your crash helmet?"
Jose' Jimenez: "Don't call it a CRASH helmet!"
That ugly one on eBay now looks like something out of a bad scifi movie.

That critical item sticker is put on boxes containing hardware, not on the hardware itself. Still, it would make a good helmet for a Halloween costume. I'm glad you got it for a good price.

Oh well, would have been nice if it were something actually related to the space program, but it was a couple of orders of magnitude less expensive than the one on eBay. An impulse buy that didn't pan out, and now into my kids' costume box it goes. My son does like to wear it, even though it's so big he looks like a lollipop as he walks around.

The helmet currently on eBay has an interesting shape to it. That cut out on the top center of the helmet needs a light mounted in it and you could star in a nice direct to video B movie.
